Different Countries

The novel's young protagonist's aunt disappears on the day that she is supposed to arrive in the village. Nora, the young niece, becomes obsessed in finding out what happened to her aunt, finally realizing that the soldiers in their village must have had something to do with it. Together with her best friend, a boy from their village, too, they look for answers.

Disappearances also affect the life of the other characters in the novel: Katherine's missing family history; children from another island who opt to disappear because of their hard life.

Clarissa V. Militante's 𝘿𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 was long listed in the 2009 Man Asian Literary Prize.
